Let’s face it, lighthouses are always surrounded by that aura of mysticism regardless if you watch them from the sea full of hope, or pondering from the shore. As is happens, yacht charter Croatia has some of the best lighthouses in the world, and recognition of that is beginning to emerge.
The British newspaper “The Independent” has recently included the Croatian lighthouse at Grebeni in yacht charter Dubrovnik as one of the most beautiful in the world. Along the Croatian lighthouse, there were several other places listed such as Sugarloaf Point in Australia (New South Wales), Corsewall in Scottish Stranraer, the Old Light in the Bristol Canal, the Molja lighthouse in Norway or the Capo Spartiventa in Sardinia, Italy.
The lighthouse was built in 1872 and it sits on a small rocky outcrop in front of Dubrovnik, in Lapad Bay. The best thing is that it was turned recently into a hotel that can accommodate a maximum of 6 to 8 persons and which is equipped with its own kitchen and barbeque area.
Available for booking between June and October, the lighthouse offers the possibility of complete isolation and the feeling of living at sea more or less, or just getting an idea about the life in a lighthouse. The rest of the year, the lighthouse is closed to tourists because the local strong winds cause big waves making the stay in the lighthouse uncomfortable.
The nearby Dubrovnik Royal Palace hotel can provide you with personnel and with assistance when it comes to food and cleaning. In all, the lighthouse has 4 bedrooms, a kitchen and 2 sun terraces which offer a splendid view of the whole island which is uninhabited and can only be reached by boat (the distance to shore is about 900m), thus increasing the feeling of solitude and remoteness.
